Following New Testament examples, Riverside is governed by a board of elders chosen based on scriptural guidelines. The physical and financial needs of the church are handled by a board of deacons, also selected based on godly character. – 1 Timothy 3:1-7, 1 Timothy 3:8-13
Gene Harris (pastor)
Gene Harris accepted the call to pastor Riverside Church in December 2024 after a 25 year ministry with Faith Bible Church in Lansing. Gene has a background in independent Christian churches and a seminary degree from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (Deerfield, IL). He also has education and experience in farrier work (horseshoeing / hoof care). Gene's personal mission is to help people grow into their full potential in Christ.Gene and his wife Sherry have six grown children. You can learn about their family history and previous ministry in this tribute published by Faith Bible Church.
Kevin Behrens (elder)
Kevin and Lorie have four children (two graduates and two still home-schooling). He works as a software developer, but identifies most strongly with a lifelong effort to value and trust God above all and live accordingly. In God's mercy, Kevin's restless efforts to rightly understand and apply God's Word have taken a constructive turn with Riverside. One of his greatest joys is worshiping God through music with his talented children. Ephesians 6:10-17 is a good synopsis of Kevin's outlook, which the Lord has been patient in helping him flesh out.
Elaine Kamptner (deaconess)
Elaine is a widow who loves the Lord. She is retired from Ferris State University and is a full-time caretaker of her elderly mother. Her son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter live in the area. One of her favorite passages of scripture is Romans 8:28-30. All glory, honor, power, and praise belong to God.
